Schaack, Diana; Quaing, Henriette; Nusch, Tanja; Rampold, Christine; Beck, Margit M..

Schaack, Diana; Beck, Margit M..
Schaack, Diana; Beck, Margit M..

D4.4 Final revised database Organic Eprints
Willer, Helga; Schaack, Diana.
In the framework of the OrganicDataNetwork project and internal project database was established in order to store the data collected in the two survey rounds of the OrganicDataNetwork project (Willer and Schaack 2013 and 2014). The database builds on the one that the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) and the Agricultural Market Information Company (AMI) use for their organic data collection activities. However, this database was considerably expanded during the OrganicDataNetwork project. This document explains the features of the internal OrganicDataNetwork database and how the data can be acceded.

Erhebung zu Bio-Marktdaten in Europa – Datenlücken, Klassifizierungen, Definitionen und Qualitätschecks Organic Eprints
Schaack, Diana; Willer, Helga.
One of the aims of the EU-funded OrganicDataNetwork project is to collect, store in a common format and provide access to currently available data on organic markets in Europe. Two surveys on production, retail sales, international trade data were carried out. The surveys have shown that a wide range of data is available but a number of challenges need to be tackled in the future. These challenges include lack of data, non-timeliness and incompleteness of data, as well as classification issues as – other than with the area and production data – almost every country uses a different classification/nomenclature for retail sales, export and import data. Other issues include non-harmonised definitions and data quality. For the first time, organic market data...

Willer, Helga; Rippin, Markus; Schaack, Diana; Lampkin, Nicolas; Padel, Susanne; Lowman, Steve.
Data collection, processing and dissemination in Europe still suffers from a lack of standardization, but the situation is getting increasingly better. Joint efforts are now undertaken by the Central Market and Price Report Office ZMP (Germany), the Institute of Rural Sciences IRS (UK) and the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL (Switzerland) to harmonize their data collection and to enhance data availability.

Growth Trends in European Organic Food and Agriculture Organic Eprints
Willer, Helga; Schaack, Diana; Bteich, Marie Reine.
In Europe today, organic agricultural land, operators4 and markets5, in almost all countries, continue to develop and grow. Furthermore in a global context Europe continues to be a forerunner in organic agriculture. This positive development in Europe and in particular in the European Union (EU) is due to a number of reasons, including strong consumer demand, legal protection and requirements for organic production and labelling as set out in EU and national legislation, and the development of private organic standards. In addition, policy support measures, such as conversion and maintenance payments for organic production and other relevant measures, provided for in most countries under the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), Rural Development Programmes...

Herausforderungen bei der Erhebung von Daten zum Biolandbau weltweit Vorschläge zur Optimierung der Datensammlung Organic Eprints
Willer, Helga; Schaack, Diana; Lernoud, Julia.
The annual survey on organic agriculture worldwide shows that a wide range of data on the organic sector is available, but a number of challenges need to be tackled in order to increase data availability, quality, and comparability. These challenges include lack and incompleteness of data, classification issues, non-harmonised definitions and lack of consistency checks. In order to improve the situation a number of recommendations are presented including the expansion of data collection activities, the improvement and harmonisation of statistical processes, the implementation of quality checks, and the strengthening of the institutional framework for data collection.
